My Passion for Backpacking
Hey everyone, my name is Mike and I enjoy backpacking and hiking. Backpacking has become a favorite pastime of mine. It’s always fun to have an excuse to get outdoors, instead of spending my days indoors. I haven’t been backpacking for too long — it started out with hiking at various metroparks, around Detroit, where I live. I discovered it’s enjoyable to be outdoors and experiencing nature.
If I had not searched on YouTube for the word, hiking, I don’t know if I would have considered this great activity. I was just watching a video about backpacking in the Great Smoky Mountains — and I knew then that I wanted to experience the awesomeness of backpacking for myself. And so I did and haven’t looked back.
I don’t consider myself an expert on backpacking in any way — I’m just someone who enjoys the activity and I learn as I go. There’s nothing better than being outdoors and experiencing the sights, smells, and the wildlife. Taking a break from everyday life for a few days is something everyone should try — not worrying about your normal bills to stress at work. I think when you go on any backpacking trip, leave your negative everyday life worries at home — and take the time to experience a relaxing positive trip. Just focus your energy on having the best experience of your life, like there’s no tomorrow.
So, that’s basically how I got started with backpacking. I try to go hiking and backpacking, as much as I can — life is too short to say no. By the way, here’s my introduction to Backcountry Hikes, right below:
More About Me…
I am currently 28 years old. Autumn is my favorite season, mostly because my birthday falls in October — I love the changing colors. I enjoy taking nature landscape photography with my DSLR — I take it with me on every backpacking trip. Yes, I know, it weighs a ton, for backpacking purposes — but I don’t mind the extra weight. My favorite artist to listen to, while on my way to my backpacking destination, is Lord Huron. I listen to alternative/folk rock music — like Lord Huron, Mumford & Sons, Of Monsters And Men, and many similar bands. I have a interest in the strange & paranormal and enjoy listening to late night talk radio and podcasts — for example, Darkness Radio and The Paranormal Podcast. I am experienced in graphic design — designing a logo, typography, working with Photoshop, etc.
